Gethsemane Cyber Prayer Warriors

History
In 1996 Matthew Manning and Christa Braun were enrolled at the King’s College in Van Nuys, California.  Matthew and Christa began a small pray group that met every Friday night at the College.  After much prayer they both felt that the pray group should be called “The Gethsemane Prayer Group.”  The below passage of Scripture was given to Matthew and Christa from God which in turn determined the name.

Jesus' Three Prayers
Matthew 26:36-46 Mark 14:32–42; Luke 22:40–46
Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go and pray over there.”  And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed. Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.”  He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “What! Could you not watch with Me one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from me unless I drink it, your will be done.” And He came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy.  So He left them, went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. Then He came to His disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise, let us be going. See, my betrayer is at hand.”

During these prayer sessions, Matthew would teach a small devotion followed by intersession for the College faculty and the development of the college and seminary.  There was also time for personal prayer for those gathered.  A prayer board was erected and names and faces were placed on this board for prayer.  When a prayer request had been fulfilled resulting in a positive outcome, the name or face would be taken off the prayer board and placed on a victory board.

The Gethsemane Prayer Group continued to grow each week and in 1998, Matthew was asked by the Pastoral Team at the Church On The Way to put a class together that would help those struggling with addictions and Identity issues find deliverance and healing in Jesus. Matthew accepted this challenge and “The Finding Your Identity In Christ Seminar was developed.

The Gethsemane Prayer Group and The Finding Your Identity In Christ Seminar’s continued through 1999 at The Church On The Way and the Kings College and Seminary.  In 1998 Matthew and Christa Manning were married and in 1999 left The Kings College and Seminary to enter into full time ministry.

In 1997, Matthew was lead to begin LightHouse World Evangelism, Inc.,  a non-profit 501C3 organization which has conducted ministry all over the world as well as the United States for over a decade.
