What Happened to Jon and Sherry Rivers?
I want to allow listeners and fans of the KLOVE Morning Show to use this blog as a place, not to gossip about what may have happened to Jon and Sherry Rivers, but rather a place to speak words of encouragement and even post prayers for all the parties involved. I do not agree with how this situation is being handled by KLOVE Radio, nor do I agree with the fact that Jon and Sherry have not made a statement yet regarding their ministry future. I believe that Jon and Sherry have an obligation to make a statement to their listeners whether through a third party or themselves personally.
For me, I have reached the place of Burnout in my life, and am taking some time off to reconnect with family. I am so thankful for the support of our partners who are standing beside me in my decision to take a few months to rest, reconnect, and be refreshed by the Holy Spirit. I could only wish that the Body of Christ would be more open and honest regarding their failures.
We have no clue what is happening because the leadership of KLOVE Radio has chosen to be secretive about the issue. I do not believe that this is going to turn out to be a good decision on the part of KLOVE, especially because the listeners are the ones that financially support those in leadership of KLOVE Radio. If the listeners do not like the decisions that the leadership team of KLOVE Radio have made, they can choose to withhold their pledge support until which time the situation is handled correctly. As you can see this can become very problematic for a listener supported radio station.
Again this blog is not to speculate on what has happened to Jon and Sherry Rivers, it is a place to leave words of encouragement, and leave prayers for all those that are involved in this situation. The facts as they stand currently are: Jon and Sherry have been removed from the morning show of KLOVE Radio, and they are asking that their privacy be maintained as they work through a family issue. So for now we all must except this and give words of encouragement and prayer to Jon and Sherry until we are given more information by either KLOVE Radio, Jon and Sherry Rivers, a spokesperson for Jon and Sherry, or all the above. We must pray for them, their family, and the leaders of KLOVE Radio in this time of transition whether we agree with the situation or not.
I highly recommend flooding KLOVE Radio with calls requesting a more accurate statement (minus detailed personal information) of what occurred. Those in leadership and public influence must be held to higher standards than those who are just in the body of Christ. If there has been no sin, and this was just a business decision, then we the listeners who support KLOVE with our financial contributions have the right to know this. If there was sin, we too have the right to know this as well, because Jon and Sherry were in a place of leadership. Our knowing is not for the purpose of gossip about rather so we can pray for the situation and to not allow Satan to have one more minute bringing dissension into the camp.
KLOVE Radio loves asking people to call in to pledge money to support their vision and mission, let us see what happens when those who are supporters call in asking for answers. Remember when you send KLOVE a check, they are responsible to you as a partner to be open and honest in their decision making process.

THE FUTURE OF LIGHTHOUSE WORLD EVANGELISM
I have returned from a weekend of rest and relaxation at a local hotel in our area. Wow, was that ever needed. I am thankful for all of you that have agreed with my choice to take three months and rest and reconnect with family and friends. Your love and support means more than you will ever know or even possibly understand. I want to write and give an update on my progress and the future of LightHouse World Evangelism.
There have been many questions and concerns that have come to my attention, and I want to assure all of our partners that I have not “fallen off the wagon,” or committed some horrible sin that would affect my ability to lead in any way shape or form. I have just been “burning the candle” from both ends and am in need of major rest. My attitude and how I have cared for my family, friends, and staff has suffered because of my burnout. This could not continue and measures had to be taken so I would not continue to lead on empty or worse yet, hurt the people that I love and admire anyfurther with my attitude and words.
A few weeks back I attended a seminar and read a book by Wayne Cordeiro titled “Leading on Empty.” After this conference and reading the book I saw the warning signs very clearly in my own life. Therefore out of precaution and pure desire to continue to have a solid marriage and relationship with my children, family and staff, I chose to cut back my ministry schedule until mid June to reconnect with my family and enjoy life.
As for LightHouse World Evangelism, I am still the President and am still actively involved in the daily routine of operations. Our administrative team and I are using my down time (the next three months) to restructure our organization. Due to our nation’s economy which has caused a decline in our donations as well as a decrease in our partner base, we are being forced to make cut backs. Therefore, we will be looking at our current budget and are several departments and deciding where we can make financial cut backs yet still be effective in carrying out God’s purposes and plans.
One cutback that we will be making is in the area of Media. Though we still have a vision for Christian movies and television, the amount of finances needed to move this vision forward has never occured to a demension needed to be succesful. Therefore, we will be placing our LightHouse Broadcasting Network and Safe Harbor Productions on hold indefinitely, or until such time that the finances are there to move it forward.
On another note, Christopher Shawn Shaw who has served faithfully as our media director for the last decade will also be leaving us as of April 1, 2009. This is a very sad time for all of us here; however we are so thankful for the 10 years God has blessed us with Christopher. Though Christopher’s season is over here, I have no doubt whatsoever that God will continue to bless Christopher and his ministry vision regarding Christian media. I thank God for Christopher and his loyalty, service, and friendship to LightHouse World Evangelism as well as our family over the last decade and wish him the very best as he moves forward in what God has for his life and future ministry endeavors.
To replace the Media Department, we will be looking at using our website to promote our Christian worldview and outreach, to this lost generation, for Christ. Beginning in July 2009, we have plans to launch a podcast of messages from my “Finding Your Identity In Christ Seminars” We also have plans to begin a live chat room where individuals will be able to call in to our studio via Skype or type counseling questions to me via the chat room, and receive biblically based advice in regards to their questions, concerns or crisis and I will pray for their needs live over the internet.
Again thank you for all your prayers and continued support for our family we love you all, and we as a ministry look forward to our continued service to you in the days, weeks, months, and years ahead.

LEST HIS ANGER IS AROUSED
Deuteronomy 11:17-25
Lest the Lord’s anger be aroused against you, and He shut up the heavens so that there be no rain, and the land yield no produce, and you perish quickly from the good land which the Lord is giving you. “Therefore you shall lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, that your days and the days of your children may be multiplied in the land of which the Lord swore to your fathers to give them, like the days of the heavens above the earth. For if you carefully keep all these commandments which I command you to do-to love the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways, and to hold fast to Him- then the Lord will drive out all these nations from before you, and you will dispossess greater and mightier nations than yourselves. Every place on which the sole of your foot treads shall be yours: from the wilderness and Lebanon, from the river, the River Euphrates, even to the Western Sea, shall be your territory. No man shall be able to stand against you; the Lord your God will put the dread of you and the fear of you upon all the land where you tread, just as He has said to you.
When reading this Scripture I find a very sobering truth. If we do not walk in obedience to God in every area of our life, the public as well as private, the blessings can and will be shut off. This verse states that fruit will perish quickly from the good land that He intends for us. However, if we walk in obedience God promises to drive out all of our enemies, and where we place the soles of our feet will become ours for the taking.
Over the last 18 months I have been under extreme pressure. My wife has suffered for the last 3 years with Rheumatoid Arthritis and I have found myself having to do more to care for her as well as care for our two biological sons. Our family has had to deal with several legal challenges regarding restraining orders against the biological parents of our Adopted children. And to top this off our two adopted sons and myself were shot at and almost killed while driving in our car in December. Finally, there have been the continued challenges in running a non-profit organization and being involved in my Masters Degree Program. Dealing with all the above mentioned issues, brought me to a place where I noticed that I was coming very close to burnout.
It amazes me that when under stressful conditions how the first area that begins to come under fire is the area of character and integrity. I wish that I could say that I passed this test with flying colors. However, that is not the case. While the stress level climbed so did my temper and emotions. Needless to say this has been a very difficult 18 months of my life. A few nights ago a change took place in my life. God brought me to a place of conviction while attending two seminars at the King’s College and Seminary last week.
I realized that the path that I have been walking down the last year or so was one made by me and not Jesus. Yes, my public life was still one that portrayed holiness and righteousness, however when it came to my private life, I was not hitting the mark that I should have been as a husband, father, and mentor to many. I repented to my family and close friends for my attitude and behavior over the last 18 months. I have asked each of them to help me over the next several months as I take time off to reflect and heal and to stand with me and my family as we get back on track.
I am saying all this in this public post, because, I want to live a life that is transparent to all that know me publically as well as privately, those who support our ministry financially and those who pray for my family and ministry on a regular basis. I will be taking the next 3 months to spend quality time with my immediate family and repair our relationship. During this time, God has promised me that the fruit that was beginning to die will once again begin to blossom and the land what was beginning to become barren will once again begin to yield fruit.
I assure each of you that though many would not think that what has been going on in my life constitutes these drastic measures, I believe that they do. LightHouse World Evangelism will continue its course; however my schedule for the next three months has been put on hold. I will once again begin my ministry activities as of June 15, 2009. Thank you for your prayers as I now join my family and reconnect. My prayer is that Jesus will refresh me and replace my wineskin with a new one.
I will continue to blog as I feel the need, and keep you posted on my recovery from the edge of burnout. I love you all, and I am so thankful for the friends and partners that Christa and I have in all of you.
Father, I repent for my attitudes and behavior that have been contrary to your word. I repent of the way I have treated others and the lack of respect I have shown my family. This is not who you desire me to be, nor is it who I want to be. Jesus I ask that you will heal my emotions and make me once again into a loving servant you desire me to be.

Mark 13: 5-13
And Jesus, answering them, began to say: ”Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He, and will deceive many. But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be troubled; for such things must happen, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines and troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows. “But watch out for yourselves, for they will deliver you up to councils, and you will be beaten in the synagogues. You will be brought before rulers and kings for My sake, for a testimony to them. And the gospel must first be preached to all the nations. But when they arrest you and deliver you up, do not worry beforehand, or premeditate what you will speak. But whatever is given you in that hour, speak that; for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. Now brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end shall be saved.”
Mark 13:34-37
It is like a man going to a far country, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch. Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming-in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning- lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping. And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!”
Jesus is telling us that in the last days we have to be strong and to stand firm regarding our belief in Jesus Christ. We must contend for Holiness and righteousness in a world that is contrary to the Holiness and righteousness of God. Jesus tells us to not be caught sleeping, rather be alert and watchful for not only the signs forecasting His return, but all His physical return as well.
Being alert and watchful is not passive, rather it is actively pursuing the cause of Christ. To make a difference in this world, the Body of Christ must be actively engaged in spiritual warfare so the Gospel message can go forth in our communities and the world.
Please share your thoughts on this message of being alert and watchful. Share with us experiences you have had in regards to what Jesus is speaking about in the above passage of Scripture. I would love to hear your thoughts.
